"All the Rage" is the second half of the eighth episode in the fourteenth season of Arthur.

Summary

Muffy tries to come up with fashion trends after watching fashion icon Capri di Vapida on TV, but her ankle purses, edible scarves and fluffy armings don't catch on.

Plot

The episode begins with Muffy standing in front of 'Muffy's House of Fashion Horrors'. She is showing Arthur, Francine, and Buster around. She shows them their own selves and tells them that they look ridiculous. Arthur, Francine, and Buster move on a bit and see one of Muffy's mannicans wearing somethings that they had never seen Muffy wear before. They start laughing seeing it as very funny.

After the title card, Muffy is seen laying on her bed watching Capri DiVapida on T.V. in a gondola in Venice, Italy with a reporter, Candy Coco. Muffy compliments her to Bailey who comes in to serve juice. Candy Coco asks Capri what the latest fashion trend according to her was. Capri says that huge sunglasses were in fashion along with whatever she and her pet, Pixel were wearing lately. She also introduces her new catchphrase, 'warm' which means 'cool'. (The El Boomerang signed football is seen). When Capri says that everything she and Pixel hadn't been wearing lately was NOT warm, Muffy is shocked and is seen going to her closet and cleaning out all her old clothes.

She goes to the charity store, 'Care to Ware' and gives them all away. Buzz thanks her and shows her old fashion fads such as 'the poodle skirt' (1950's) and the 'ankle socks' (1970's). Muffy then plans to make her own fads. Sue Ellen enters and buy an old hat of Muffy's.

The next scene features Muffy in her room making ideas for fads. She first thinks of the 'belt' and Bailey tells that already exists. Bailey suggests a yellow plastic shoes with holes on the top. Muffy doesn't think that they would never work.

Next, Arthur, Francine, and Binky are seen on the school grounds getting ready for a race. Muffy comes jogging and shows off her new 'ankle pouches'. She tries to show off how good they were by saying that they were very helpful to keep money in. She falls down and misses the beginning of the race when she tries to take out some money from them. Binky steals some of the money and runs off.

Next, Francine, Arthur, and Buster are seen inside the Sugar Bowl eating. Muffy enters and shows of her new fad, 'snak-o-scarf' which are made of gourmet fruit rolls. She holds a bag with different flavors of the scarves. Buster takes one of the scarves and eats it. Sue Ellen enters wearing her hat. When Muffy tells her not to wear it and that it is out, Sue Ellen says that she likes the way it looks. Muffy then takes off.

Next day, she is seen in the cafeteria wearing her 'armings'. She shows them to Fern who takes a look and leaves. Muffy then tried to take one of the trays, but cannot because the 'armings' are very stiff.

Next, she is seen next to the lockers wearing a monocle. She says 'the monocle is so old, it is new' to Arthur who leaves. Muffy turns around and hits her head on a locker door.

Next, she is seen in her room watching Capri on Television. Capri says that when she makes her trends, she gets most of her ideas from things around her. Pixel gives her the idea of 'nose cones' when it sticks its head into an ice cream cone by accident.

Muffy goes to the playground where she sees George and thinks of designer antlers when she sees Binky wearing one of the caps Sue Ellen was wearing. When Muffy looks surprised, Binky tells her that almost everyone was wearing them and that she could get her own at 'Care To Ware'. They were selling like hot cakes.

Muffy visits Sue Ellen's house in sweats wearing a cashmere cap. Sue Ellen invites her in and gives her a milkshake. She then shows her a scrapbook with the term, 'Muffy-it-up' next to a picture of Muffy. Sue Ellen explains that that was the word she uses when she thinks something is cool and that she sometime look it up.

Muffy compliments Sue Ellen's outfit and leaves, happy.

Muffy then goes home and watches more of Capri DiVapida. Capri then thinks that dog biscuits are yellow (which she claims is a flavor). Muffy tells Bailey that she was NOT going to eat dog biscuits even if Capri says they are warm and Bailey agrees.

Trivia

Errors

  • When Sue Ellen walks into the Sugar Bowl, the front of her short-sleeve dress is purple instead of teal.

Cultural references

  • When Muffy is brainstorming fads, Bailey's idea is a thinly veiled reference to Crocs: "What about a brightly colored, plastic shoe with holes in the top? With a catchy name...uh, Docks! Pocks!--"

Episode connections

  • Muffy's House of Fashion Horrors is very similar to the House of Fashion Horrors in "Prunella's Prediction."
