Arthur's Valentine is the third book in the Arthur Adventure series. It was first published in 1980 by Little, Brown and Company, and it was re-published in 1987 with a re-illustrated cover, even though the page illustrations were recycled from the original publication. The republished edition also featured a headshot of Sue Ellen on the back cover.

- This is the first appearance of Sue Ellen, the new girl at Lakewood Elementary School. We also see the tree house for the first time in this book.
- Fern Walters who was a background character in her debut in Arthur's Eyes, gets her name for the first time and finally recognized as an official character.
- Near the end of the book, Francine once again calls Arthur "Four-eyes", which is a callback to Arthur's Eyes.
- This book was never adapted into an episode for the TV series, but the events leading up to Valentine's Day are seen in "The Long, Dull Winter."
- This is the first Arthur book to be published in the 1980s decade.
- While it is never revealed in the end why Arthur vanished and only left chocolate kisses for Francine who wonders where he went, the illustration of Sue Ellen on the back cover of the newer editions suggests he probably ended up with her as she was the one he originally hoped would be his secret admirer.
